Our Story
Woodcraft Specialties was founded by Jeff Plautz in 1979, starting out of his father's garage. Over more than four decades, that one-man operation grew into the leading custom and refacing cabinetry business in the Wausau area — built on a simple promise: high-quality materials, fair prices, and satisfaction guaranteed.
Today, the business is led by Jeff’s son, Ethan, who returned home to Wausau after seven years of service in the U.S. Air Force. As President and CEO, he is carrying the family legacy into its next chapter, staying true to the craftsmanship that has defined the company while growing the team and creating new opportunities for its future.

President, CEO
After seven years of service in the U.S. Air Force in supply chain and logistics management, Ethan returned to his hometown of Wausau to carry on the family business alongside his father. He holds an A.S. in Logistics Management and a B.A. in Organizational Leadership, and specializes in cabinetry design — helping customers select cabinet and countertop colors and materials while delivering exceptional customer service.
Founder

CNC Machine Operator
Operates our CNC machine, cutting cabinet parts, sizing doors, and producing a wide range of other components. With precision and attention to detail, Paul helps ensure each piece is cut accurately and ready for the next step.
Face Frame Builder
Don is one of our most experienced team members, handling a wide range of detailed woodworking projects. He builds face frames, glues up material, creates custom range hoods and wood countertops, builds cabinet doors and drawer fronts, and runs all of our moldings.
Assembly
Josh handles cabinet assembly, making sure each cabinet is carefully put together and ready for installation. He installs face frames, drawers, and drawer fronts while ensuring every mechanism works properly and each piece meets our quality standards.
Finishing — Scuff Sanding
Jeff is one of our most skilled finishers, taking great pride in every piece he works on. Each piece is carefully hand-stained and sprayed with a high-quality finish to achieve a smooth, flawless result.
Sanding
Sands cabinet doors, drawer front, drawer boxes, panels, moldings, interior doors and all other cabinet components to an even, glass-smooth surface, ready for finishing.
Cabinet Refacing
Glen specializes in our Renew-A-Kitchen cabinet refacing, transforming existing kitchens with a fresh, updated look. As one of our lead installers, he takes pride in making sure each project is completed with care and attention to detail.
Drawer Builder & Assembly
Specializes in building dovetailed drawers and assembling custom cabinets. With a strong attention to detail, Dani takes pride in creating quality craftsmanship built to last.
